AINT NO PARTY LIKE A GUNDAM PARTY [Oct. 26th, 2009|02:03 pm]
'CAUSE A GUNDAM PARTY DONT STOP

totally AWESOME party

the weirdest part: I witnessed a wedding proposal while wearing that.
Some times life is good.
Some times you propose in front a drunken gundam robot.

black boots on wet pavement (no refrains, unedited) [Sep. 28th, 2009|07:07 pm]
In the morning
I woke up to the sun
But then it was raining
down on everyone

I felt I was late but I was fooling my self
better get a shave
shower and meet the day

The air is so thick
with possibility
or was it just the wet mist
that was misleading me?

the day begins
and the steam rises from the streets
the drivers aren't here yet
and I can see everything
through the plate glass
from my pleather stool, formica bar
I feel a feeling and I feel it hard

The streets were shing
like long black oil lakes
punched the steel
black the neon
I saw my fate

black boots on wet pavement
keep me dry in the rain
feel the wind
as it howls and crys
the night begins again

and though I may stumble
my ankles will not crack
leather and laces
double tied
will hold me back

no stone puddle or pot hole will ruin my day
the future is just a few seconds away

I really tried
and in a alien wilderness I cried
for another time
but the present was mine

boots hold me from falling apart
that I might not slip
on the slick streets
of my broken heart

another stormy day
but Im glad to be alive
Ive seen the sun before
and I know those clouds
cannot survive

I lept down the stair after you
to no avail
I crept down the allys too
to no avail
Chasing a shadow
to no avail
an imagined future beautiful
but cold and pale

but alas
that never came to pass
I discovered the path,
oh oh it lay in the past
a certain feeling
I strive to feel today
a certain nostalgia
for things that haven't happened yet
a certain joy for inner discovery
when oh when will be set free?

It may keep you around
but remember the peace will hold you down
how can you progress
if youve got every comfort around
how can you asses the soul
if the body is being addressed in whole?

friends will go as time begins to pass
I may want to die
but these boots can take me to hell and back

Thirsty is not a mood [Sep. 27th, 2009|12:45 am]
[mood |thirsty]

It was kind of strange and still is, going out without a real destination. I knew I needed a book so I departed in the direction of a street called Magnolia a tree not found in this part of the state. On the way to Borders and coffee I turned early and ran past the theater, fateful mistake? Nothing magic happened so I checked the times while a couple stared at me from across the street I stated back. I decided to see "the informant" at 9:40 Id already read the story about the man the film was based on but decided it would be worth it to see the film. In the mean time I needed literature of some kind and maybe caffeine.

Entering the book store and feeling the icy bast of AC I am met with the sheer horror of an entire rack of books with Glenn Beck's Face attached. What an utter tragedy, what a miserable wreck of a human being. This glossy fear mongering fuck is wearing a soviet uniform, the words over his head read "arguing with the stupid" or something. I wasn't sure if it was an invitation or an insult directed at the wiser folk of public life. I pass him by.

I wandered the store, DVD's; racks of nonsense, I wanted some truth, the thought of the mad moron putting out a book made my skin crawl. Finally after realizing the "journalism" had been collapsed into "general media" along with books about fluffy kittens I found my book. Hunter S Thompson: "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72". Here is a good old angry dead guy to set my mood right.

I wandered some more and ended up in the magazine rack looking at art books and music mags that cost twice what my book was to cost and containing 50% print adds the other 50% was about things you could buy if you wanted too. I kept wondering if the subscribers to these sorts of magazines walk around major cities with all their architectural splendor staring at the ground out of fear that a rare designer shoe would escape their observance.

Wired magazine caught my eye. It was like the old days, bold proclamations about the future, snazzy cover art, almost Mondo 2000 levels of boldness. Abolish the NFL? Hey that sounds controversial! Opening it was a mistake.

The movie was okay, I thought it would be funnier but in the end it was pretty sad, only mildly funny but very charming in its way. It was weird buying the ticket, I dont usually pay full price but I was confronted with being at the front of a long line of people, alone on Saturday night. When she said 9 dollars I thought it was a mistake but, no thats what people pay for movies; people I quietly call suckers. I almost left but, fuck me I was bored, I pone-yd up and watched my goddamn movie. It was fun. I paid more for 2 hours of movie than 500 pages of book with tiny font.

There are powerful machines on my television [Sep. 26th, 2009|06:02 pm]
Greetings weirdos and friends. I am writing you from rain slicked Tallahassee, holed up in a 2nd floor apartment watching the Petite Le Mans @ the Panoz owned Atlanta road course on television. Its raining and all the proto-type green-running prototypes with all their technique and technology are killing each other. Crashing into barriers and skidding about like drunken RC cars. Its good television but miserable for the fans.

I am feeling mighty restless and more than a little weird. Eating peanut butter cups and watching the rain. I want to play guitar but its up in my dorm and my dorm is inhabited by a troll named Iian. Hes kind of weirdly intense, he lurks, truly lurks, plays a lot of chess but is otherwise overwhelmingly dim. I cant unwind around him which I find good for machine-like productivity but extremely poor for creativity. So I cannot go back, Ill seize up on guitar. SO Im here on the last of the American made IBM Think Pads thinking.

Imm all stopped up, thanks FSU for fucking me over by not properly running you SSH service. I cant do anything its all online and out of reach. No webpages today sucker, your going to have to learn to relax. So maybe I'll go out and buy a book or do this laundry I keep putting off.
Books sound better. Lets roll.

posted this for a forum thread on scifi writing [Sep. 24th, 2009|06:00 pm]
Presented to you 16:5 wide screen double dream electro technicolor; greeting from the colonies to the colonies. The relay is still broken, we suspect, becasue we are still getting back the transmissions we sent out last month. Moe the hoe and Linda Malinda are down south on the breaker box working on getting the washer back up. We have life support, sim sex and synth foodies but all the laundry is crusty and musty. No general purpose basin here. All the comforts of home, my ass. I dont even get a yard or a dog to piss on it. The money is good though, I love station, I love science.

A wrench grazes my eyebrow. Forty meters over the bright glowing core orb. A fleck, magna-stuck to the coolant tank wall. I am so tired and my balls itch. The air in here is full of dry ozone, smells of hydraulic fluid and heat. I move my bare arm, my sweat is slicking up the white painted metal. I grab the spanner and stick it back to my belt. Push up the wall like Im crawling, ever careful not to disengage the magnet, Im no spider. I make for the valve at the base, Ill meet Linda and well shut off the main together. I am sorry Stan but you'd never understand what we saw and why this station must not... continue.

Moe is spidering up from the base of the tank, we argue so much about which end is down and which is up. We argue a lot... How can I tell him? how can I tell him Ive changed my mind. We need not die out here, our transmission have been bouncing. Bouncing since the failure of the relay, but I couldnt tell him that either, its my fault, I set up the relay, I got the math wrong. We don't need to die, becasue no one needs to know. If I can only tell him, stand up to him and tell him the truth.

so I work for 10 east (.com)
Its a hard job, it really is. Im working primarily in perl a language Ive never used before so I have the double whammy of solving real problems in an alien computer language. Its like editing French when you only speak English.

The guys are pretty good guys, and they are all guys except the office staff (secretaries). We get free lunch twice a week and pay is good. So the non working par of working is pretty rock'n.

Im not one of the guys though, i dont have their skills or their experience.

. . .

So Im back at home and needing some space and to do so Im spending a chunk of my first pay check on a new batcave setup.

I got lucky and found most of what I wanted to get in one place, no split shipping == horray!

10east(.com) is a company that I work for [May. 13th, 2009|11:36 pm]
as an intern, making 12 every hour, I think the government takes like 3.

I packed up and I left Tallahassee for an interview 2 weeks ago. They gave me the job because I was the only kid that they interviewed who loves linux and can edit in VIM. Thank you microsoft monkies. After the interview I was home for the weekend, during this time I saw pablo and robret. we went to a party.

This is pablo:

This is robert:

This is a mixer in a tree (a wild tree mixer)

The party was down town jacksonville in a colorful bike shop run by your friend and mine Joe Gas-kan. It was a tribal mix of punk rock spirit, hippie anti-culture and green movement bicycle love. There was controlled violence, there was a DJ spinning 90's party rap and scratching, there were insane murals and a lonely double dragon arcade machine on wheels. There was dancing and we drank sparks. Its was alllll right.

This is tall bike jousting. A tall bike is 2 bikes welded together to be moar tall.

This is bicycle jousting, I am on a fence.

This is a game called whip lash. Each rider is tied to a bungee. They ride twords each other and criss cross. the bungee goes tight and some one goes down. Everyone wins.

These videos cannot depict the noise in that place at that time.
I didnt get many pics becasue my phone has no flash.

Here is a NSFW image of one of the larger murals
http://yfrog.com/eh0502092146j

All the noise aroused to popos who circled the block while we screamed "swine flu" at them. Then there was a great gathering in the metal building and then there was much dancing, during which I smashed my glasses. Sunday I stayed home because Im lame and I needed to get up early and get my eyes checkd. I got tired of squinting one eye shut to see through my one good lense so I bought an eyepatch.

I spent a week back in tally putting off packing. There was a party on the 5th as there tends to be (thanx mexico) I brought natural sugar mountain Dew and then kinda left. I wasnt in the mood to drink. And what a cinco de mayo party with no drinking? Thursday night I packed, I left I arrived on friday morning. I pissed in a cup to prove I wasn't high. then I went home to bask in the still self assuredness of pontevedra. I threw my shit upstairs went for a walk with no shoes, discovered a lake I had not been to, walked by a few I hadn't seen in 6 years. It was all still there. new high schoolers roam the streets, the cycles continues cycling. The traffic sucks, there is a golf tournament (TPC) and everywhere I see Porsches. No lambos sadly. No lambos = no pics.

I started work at 10east.com on monday. Its okay, Im learning stuff, the guys are nice. I get to run linux and edit perl scripts. Ill write more about this later.

EVRYTHING IS BREAKING [Apr. 13th, 2009|02:20 pm]
So the motorcycle is back out-of-commission.

The airfilter dry rotted. It was made of foam and some of the now gritty rotted foam gout sucked into the intake. I know this because I found some stuck to the inside of the intake throat. SO now I need to pull the carburetor to make sure none gets into the engine. This is a major operation. Im going to have to wait till after school is out (sad face).

RIP old friend [Apr. 10th, 2009|06:25 pm]

So today I rearranged the living room so I could use my stereo better and so we could have HIFI sound for movies. I put a record on to test the sound and cranked it up to a level I though fitting of the music. Suddenly white spoke poofed out of the left woofer and the bass to mid ranges died on that side. Ill miss you my 12" woofer, picked for free from a church renovation project's dumpster. We had some good times.

Classic Livejournalism [Apr. 5th, 2009|09:20 pm]
So Amanda and I are over.

It happened over spring break but its taken me this long to process. 2 years is a long time.
I still like her, I always sort of will but our relationship was getting un-fun. Too much obligation and rising resentment. It was causing me much stress, her as well. She initiated, I agreed. Now we can be friends, which was the best part of our relationship anyway.
If you want to know the whys and hows you can ask me via what ever channels you like.

Now its time to reset and get over my new found (as of the last 1.5 years) depression (I though I had it licked). Time to get back to the tings I enjoy, Having a good time, going out, being creative and weird.

OMG make a game over the weekend challenge [Mar. 20th, 2009|08:04 pm]
Why?

For a class we have to make a flash app as a group project. We talked about this once at the beginning of the semester.
I promptly forgot about it and Im assuming most of my "group" did too... ...or dropped the class.

Time is running out for the semester.

As the programmer I feel I need SOMETHING to send out to the members who are still alive other than "yeah we should do this". I have the concept, I have the tools I just need to do the work.

Concept:
foot ball game (FSU Seminoles Vs UF Gators)
2 player VS (one keyboard
Flash via Adobe Flex (Id like to be able to embed it in a webpage)
Highly simplified rules. (no punting, no kickoff, just run and pass)

I'm going to use boxes in place of sprites for now, though I have a cute little running football man Ill implement later if people like it.

Controls (two action buttons and 4 directions per player)

offense:
up down left right
Pass to higher other footballer
Pass to lower other footballer

defense:
up down left right
tackle
also tackle

Goal:
score 3 touchdowns

Features:
2 player action
offense and defense that switch after a touchdown or the 4th down
3 players per team that run in formation
passing
tackling
score keeping

Features to add later:
Sprites
Pick-a-formation (multiple selectable formations wee!)
Interception (tackle while under a flying ball being passed to grab it down)
A Splash screen
Sound
Music

. . .

Build Phases:

Phase 0
boiler plate code, classes, make a thing move

Phase 1
Move things on the screen with two sets of controls at once, reset field

Phase 2
Implement 'footballer has ball' and passing

Phase 3
Touchdown and Score keeping

phase 4
throw ball, catch ball, transfer 'footballer has ball' status

phase 5
reset teams down field (new play), generate line-of-scrimmage

phase 6
tackling and downs

phase 7+
TBD

flat tire, the long long push home [Mar. 20th, 2009|04:47 pm]
Rear tire on the Motorcycle was feeling a bit spongy on the way to class today. On the way home I decided to refill it. So I went to the gas station and when I went to pump it back up to 33psi I hear wooooosh. Totally flat! no pressure! Now Icant ride it home. I cant ride it home because If I do there is the risk that the tire will come off the rim. On a car this sucks, on a motorcycle you go down on the pavement and you and the bike slide under a car.

So I pushed it home, up High road hill (its really steep) I used the engine to help push the bike which helped a lot and I used the brake a good bit on the way down the other side. Now I'm home and sweaty and typing this post. This sucks. This sucks a lot.

Digging holes in the slooshy north [Mar. 10th, 2009|11:03 am]
About going to PA to plant 12 fruit trees on my parent's northern property.

Its spring break and Im in PA, I did not inform my roommates as is my want but slipped out at 5:15pm Friday. I apparently drove past Amanda who called me up to inform me of this action. I was a bit embarrassed. I got an pomagrante rockstar at the local Blockbuster and continued on to waht-a-burger for dinner, I ate it in the car, gooey meaty and delicious, fruti sweet and energizing. I entered I10 and proceeded at top speed to Jax. one hour In I encountered traffic, miles and and miles of stop and go. After A bit I called in for help (parents) and got an alternate route. I traveled then much faster and more pleasantly down 2-lane country roads, the dark was just warm enough to make me want to lower my windows but the rushing of the wind was too loud. I reneterd I10 some time later via greenville and quickly ran low on gasoline. I found an exit ramp some miles later. It was steep and banked and twisted around. Finding theese road conditions exciting I started accelerating (well over the 25mph limit) untill the g-forces had me straing against the wheel, I felt pain in my stomach and my eyes, I had no Idea my car had that much grip. I must have been pulling over 1 g force, 2 wouldn't surprise me. Tires howling into the intersection I found gas and was on my way. I arrived 1.5 hours later than expected.

At home I talked with the folks; the usual yakyak how are classes, home life and etc. Cam was there and so was ED, CJ silver and Clain Manthai. I talked to silver about his schools' robot club and my recent forays into flash site building. I had one of my home-made T-shirts on and everyone seemed to like and or comment on it. Ed, Cam, Clain and CJ stayed up playing VS in call of duty 5. A pretty well constructed first person shooter. Hardcore mode is the best, it removes the HUD so the screen is clear and increases bullet damage. Its still a pretty silly game, getting shot in the head with a 50cal dose less damage than a similar strike with a knife at the same range. It was fun.

The next day we drove. Stayed at a hotel where I couldn't sleep due to various reasons.

And we arrived (at noon). The first thing we saw was a deer skeleton in the front drive. Only the legs had any flesh left, the rest had been picked clean by the local wildlife. In movies creature carcases are always scary and weird. here in the real world it looks lik the most natural thing in the world. Part of the landscape; a daily occurrence; a fallen creature of the forest. We set up the house, the house in PA is not used during the winter months (usually) so the pipes are filled with diluted anti-freeze, these had to be flushed. The pump for the well had to be turned on. The pump house had sunken about 2 inches since we left it. We suspect the groundhog living underneath had tunneled under the supports on the front of the structure. Ive never seen the ground hog but we know hes there. If we plug his tunnels they appear when ever no one is looking.

After the water was clean and flowing we lit a fire in the wood burner. The wood burner heats our water and our water runs through exchanges in the house heating it by convection. We fire the woodburner with scrap wood from the property, mostly felled and fallen trees that are cut up and put in the old barn. Its cheap and environmentally friendly. The environmentally friendly part comes from the fact that dead trees left to rot release just as much carbon as they do when burned. The woodburner itself stands about 7 feet tall by 4 feet wide by 12 feet deep. Its away from the house by about 4 feet.

We also set up a directional DTV antenna on the roof which gets us 3 to 4 (depending on angle) or so free digital TV channels which to my surprise are crystal clear. I used this to watch the Late Show which was presented in 16:9 to my surprise.

The next day we dug. We dug or tried to dig 12 holes in the rocky and partly frozen soil. All were 15 inches wide by 18 inches deep. We start a hole with my father's tractor, it has attached to the rear PTO an auger which is spun by the tractor engine is lifted and set by an hydraulic pump and cylinder. The auger if you dont know is a huge drill, 9 inches across and about 4 feet long. We drill or try to drill 3 holes and then break up the dirt in between. Shovel it out and you have a hole. The ground is filled with all sorts of stuff, rocks, cold hard clay and occasionally ice impregnated dirt clods. Several times the auger stopped and skipped forcing us to have to dig the ice or hard clay blockage out manually. One hole was so stubbornly frozen we gave up on it for the time being.

Later we saw my grandfather who with the help of his brother (my greatuncle Harry) had accidentally lit a few acres of his hay field on fire and had just barely wrestled control of the blaze by furiously mowing the field around the fire to create a break. This happened only weeks after a major hernia operation. I hope I can be so spry and with-it at 75. He had plenty of other stories. The moving and population of the deer on his land, the big freezing rain and the trees it tore down, what this means for crops next year, local tales of local goings on. I can see the appeal of country life whenever we visit. If you can get excited by the small things and like nature its a pretty happy uncomplicated life.

Today my dad is off to get the trees. 12 saplings, 3 or 4 kinds of apple, 3 kinds of cherry, nectarines and I forget what else. Im presently in the Library at Juniata College in Huntingdon PA doing home work (mostly).
